Lapu-Lapu to fund house- keepingtraining facility for female PDLs
CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City government is set to fund the establishment of a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-accredited housekeeping training facility for women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) as part of its efforts to expand livelihood and skills training inside the city’s jail facility.
Mayor Ma. Cynthia King-Chan met on Thursday, July 16, with officials from Radisson Blu Cebu and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to discuss the proposed facility, which will be established at the BJMP Women’s Jail Dormitory.
According to the city, the project will be financed through its Gender and Development (GAD) budget and is targeted for completion within the year.
The facility will serve as a training center where women PDLs can undergo practical housekeeping lessons through simulated hotel housekeeping activities.
BJMP Jail Chief Inspector Ivy Christine Manigos said the additional livelihood program will accommodate 25 women PDLs per batch, with each training cycle lasting two months.
The housekeeping course will add to the livelihood programs already being offered to PDLs in the city.
The city said male PDLs have previously completed TESDA National Certificate (NC) II training in carpentry, masonry, and electronics, while women PDLs have undergone training in cookery, bread and pastry production, food and beverage services, and nail care.
King-Chan said the city supports expanding livelihood opportunities for both male and female PDLs to help prepare them for employment after serving their sentences. (CEBU NEWS)
