Petecio at Villegas tatanggap ng President’s Award sa SMC-PSA Awards Night

MANILA, Philippines — Pararangalan sina Pa­ris Olympic Games bronze meda­lists Nesthy Pe­tecio at Aira Villegas ng pres­ti­hiyosong President’s Award sa 2024 San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association (SMC-PSA) Awards Night na idaraos sa Enero 27 sa Manila Hotel.

Malaki ang kontribus­yon nina Petecio at Villegas na parehong kumana ng tansong medalya para mas lalo pang paniningin ang kampanya ng Team Philippines sa Paris Games.

Kasama ang dalawang tanso sa dalawang gintong medalyang nakamit ni gymnast Carlos Yulo sa men’s vault at men’s floor exercise.

Mapapasakamay naman ni Yulo ang 2024 Athlete of the Year award sa programang inihahandog ng ArenaPlus, Cignal at Me­diaQuest.

Nakasungkit si Petecio ng tanso sa women’s 57kg division, habang may tanso rin si Villegas sa women’s 50 kg class.

“They may have missed the biggest prize in the 2024 Olympics, but nonetheless deserve high accolades with their own bright moments in the Paris Games, pro­viding extra push in the glorious Philippine performance – a great highlight in the country’s centennial year of participation in the Summer Games,” ani PSA President Nelson Beltran na sports editor ng The Phi­lippine Star.

Ito ang ikalawang me­dalya ni Petecio na humirit naman ng pilak na medalya noong 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Si Petecio ang bukod ta­nging Pinoy boxer na nakasungkit ng back-to-back sa Olympics.

Sa kabilang banda ay magarbo ang debut ni Villegas sa Olympic Games matapos makahirit ng tanso sa kaniyang unang pagsa­lang.

May iba pang awards ang igagawad sa progra­mang suportado ng Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, PLDT/Smart, ni Senator Bong Go, Januarius Holdings, PBA, 1-Pacman Party List, AcroCity, PVL, Akari at Rain or Shine.
