Coast Guard rescues 12 crewmen from burning vessel

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued all 12 officers and crew of a cargo vessel that caught fire off Limbones Island in Nasugbu, Batangas yesterday morning.
In a statement, the PCG said MV Castphill XV departed Delpan in Manila on Saturday dawn.
The vessel, headed to Culion in Palawan, was carrying general merchandise, hardware materials, sacks of rice, cement and fuel placed in metal containers.
According to the PCG, the crew reported that the fire broke out at 2 a.m. yesterday, while they were on the northwest side of the island.
The PCG dispatched its patrol ship BRP Boracay at 4:27 a.m. and rescued seven crew members, including the captain who suffered minor injuries.
By 7:35 a.m., the Coast Guard sub-station in Maragondon, Cavite had rescued five other crew members.
All the officers and crew of Castphill XV were taken to Pier 15 in Manila, where they received medical attention from the PCG Medical Service.
