Trump visiting Manila for ASEAN Summit in November

MANILA, Philippines — United States President Donald Trump will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Manila in November, Malacañang confirmed yesterday.
“It is confirmed, but the details will not come from me,” Palace press officer Claire Castro said at a media briefing.
President Marcos has declared Nov. 16 to 18 as special non-working days in the National Capital Region for the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
The United States has been an official dialogue partner of ASEAN since 1977. It remains ASEAN’s largest source of foreign direct investment and second largest trading partner.
Meanwhile, Castro declined to answer when asked whether the US-led Pax Silica initiative would be signed during Trump’s visit.
“I am just confirming that US President Trump will be coming. As for the details, I will share them with you once I am given the opportunity to provide them,” she said.
Trump last visited the Philippines in November 2017, when he attended the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila during his first presidential term.
Marcos and the US leader last met face-to-face at the White House in Washington, DC on July 22, 2025, when they discussed bilateral relations, defense cooperation and trade.
The two leaders subsequently held a telephone conversation on July 23, during which they discussed economic developments and regional security concerns, including the South China Sea.
