Que trails by five despite solid 67

MANILA, Philippines — Angelo Que made a strong return from a lengthy break, firing a bogey-free four-under 67 on Wednesday to stay within striking distance in the opening round of the Indonesia Pro-Am Championship of the Asian Developmental Tour at the Gunung Geulis Country Club’s East course in Bogor, Indonesia.
Que, however, found himself five strokes off the pace as a barrage of low scores produced a tightly packed leaderboard in the $125,000 event of the Asian Tour’s developmental circuit.
The three-time Asian Tour winner and reigning Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit champion opened with five straight pars before finding his rhythm, closing the front nine with birdies on Nos. 7 and 9 for a 33.
He continued to flash his power on the back nine, birdieing the par-5 12th and 16th to cap a bogey-free 34 and a solid 67.
The effort put Que in a share of 19th, a respectable start after his long layoff but one that left him with plenty of ground to make up over the final two rounds of the 54-hole championship.
Morocco’s Ayoub Lguirati set the early standard, firing a flawless nine-birdie 62 to seize a one-stroke lead.
Tim Nielsen matched Lguirati’s birdie haul with nine of his own but was undone by a bogey, settling for a 63 and second place. Nathan Han carded a 64, while seven players shot identical 65s to further tighten the leaderboard.
The other Filipinos in the field endured a tougher opening day.
Lloyd Go, who also returned from a long rest after sweeping the final two PGT legs at Pinewoods and Pradera Verde, produced one of the day’s most spectacular shots — a rare albatross on the par-5 12th — but could not convert it into a strong overall score.
Go added three birdies but gave back five strokes through bogeys, finishing with an even-par 71 for a share of 64th.
Sean Ramos made three birdies against four bogeys for a 72, leaving him tied for 78th and below the projected cut line, while Enrico Gallardo struggled to a 73 for joint 89th.
