The absurd WNBA

The Women’s National Basketball Association is meeting to define what a woman is. The basketball league that has been around for 30 years and is run by women, coached by women and features women players, does not even know what it is. They are merely hiding behind a “there are no immediate eligibility matters affecting the WNBA” statement issued Wednesday.

This came about after former NBA third overall pick Enes Kanter declared that if simply identifying as a woman was enough, he would enter the 2027 WNBA draft as a woman. The 6’11” center played for six different NBA teams over 11 years, but was known more for his activism on and off the court. Kanter publicly criticized the government of his homeland of Turkey, and his passport was revoked. He stayed in the US as a stateless person until, five years ago, he became an American citizen, adding “Freedom” to his last name.

This is just the latest issue involving the undemocratic way the WNBA is being run, as it tries to impose its twisted ideologies and decisions on its players and the public. They’ve pushed their wokeness and supprt for lesbianism to the extreme, to the detriment of the games themselves. We’ve all seen how badly they’ve treated Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, and tolerated the thuggery of their black players who can’t accept that Caucasian girls can play as well as they can and exceed them in popularity.

Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court has already authorized every state to ban male-born players from participating in women’s sports. About half of them have done so. Meanwhile, Pres. Donald Trump is planning to cut off (pardon the pun) federal funding for gender-transition health care for children and youth. We’ve already seen the harm done to sports and female athletes by transgender “women” in swimming, basketball, football, mixed martial arts and other sports. This nonsense has to stop.

The Women’s Tennis Association or WTA, meanwhile, is taking its own steps in ensuring that transgender or biologically male athletes do not play against women. In consultation with its stakeholders, the league is planning a one-time cheek swab for all its players to determine without doubt if they are female or not. The swab will specifically seek out the SRY gene which, in short, triggers the development of testicles in an individual. Therefore, if you have that specific gene, you are male, regardless of what you call yourself. It is foolproof in theory.

The WNBA will have to bite the bullet so that it isn’t trapped by its own statements. There is a limit to so-called equality and fairness, particularly when it is simply a very loud - but very small - minority that is insisting on having its way with the majority. If they say trans women can play in the league, they are destroying three decades of struggling for acceptance, and will become a farce. If they close the door on trans women, they will become confirming what society at large has been telling them, that it is simply wrong and unfair to mix the two, effectively shooting themselves in the foot.

Let’s see which they have the balls to do (pun intended).
