Nxled finds missing piece in Cayuna

MANILA, Philippines — Nxled coach Ettore Guidetti was happy with his team’s big transformation when it inherited a talented and championship-tested group from the last conference early this year.

He also knew there was a missing piece.

Enter Gel Cayuna, who is filling the need that the Chameleons thoroughly craved for and it showed yesterday as she steered them to a 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 win over the Galeries Tower Highrisers in the PVL on Tour in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

Cayuna has been in the center of the storm for Nxled and, for the second straight match, delivered and orchestrated the team’s offense to near perfection with 16 excellent sets while sneaking in a hit.

She had an almost identical performance in a straight-sets victory over Capital1 last week in Vigan, Ilocos Sur where she whipped up 17 sets that kept the club’s attack humming.

“She’s basically the coach on the floor,” said Guidetti of Cayuna.

It was the second win in three outings for the Chameleons, whose lone defeat came at the hands of 11-time league champions the Creamline Cool Smashers in the opener last July 8 in Ilagan, Isabela.

The Highrisers, who were paced by Erika Deloria again with 13 points, fell to 1-1.

Myla Pablo had another day at the office with 14 points.

In the nightcap, Akari edged Choco Mucho, 27 25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, to claim its first win in two starts. The Flying Titans descended to 0-3.
