Cool Smashers embrace future

MANILA, Philippines — The Creamline Cool Smashers knew they were not getting any younger.
So the first order of business for the 11-time PVL champion in the PVL on Tour was to embrace the youth movement.
And that’s what the proud franchise did, breaking in its new recruits in an impressive 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19 victory over Nxled in Ilagan City, Isabela on Wednesday.
“I’m happy that the team performed well even though some of our seniors weren’t able to play,” said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses, referring to the absences of team captain Alyssa Valdez, Pangs Panaga, Kyla Atienza, Jen Nierva, and Jia de Guzman due to various reasons.
The young players stepped up. Setter Donnalyn Mae Paralejas, Ish Lalongisip, and Sheena Toring all delivered.
Paralejas, a setter who last suited up for Petro Gazz, stole the show and was especially impressive in the opening set where she was fully utilized by a confident Meneses.
Lalongisip, who was recruited from Cignal, filled the spiking void left by Valdez and scattered nine hits, while Toring, a sophomore middle blocker, patrolled the net and fired six hits.
Barbie Jamili, a rookie from Adamson, also gave a glimpse of her talent, along with Erin Pangilinan, who was tapped from Cignal.
“This is important so they can experience games like this one,” said Meneses. “Actually, we talked to all of them and told them that they are pros now and they need to really work hard and enjoy being with Creamline.”
“They are strong-willed, they follow instructions, and I hope they will continue playing like this,” he added.
The future looks bright for Creamline.
