Eala ousted by Jovic in French Open singles first round

MANILA, Philippines -- Au revoir, Alex Eala.
Eala bowed out of Roland Garros after falling against Iva Jovic, 4-6, 2-6, Tuesday evening (Manila time) in Paris, France.
Eala was simply outmatched by the World No. 17 American, who secured the victory over the Filipina in an hour and 40 minutes.
The 21-year-old had a sluggish start, falling behind 5-1 in the first set as she was dominated by the American.
But she won three straight games to close the gap, 4-6, before Jovic broke her serve and grabbed the first set.
Eala then drew first blood in the second set, before the two traded games.
Jovic, however, was just too strong and too good, breezing through to the victory as she broke the 2-all deadlock and never looked back.
The American punched in 34 winners in the match, compared to the World No. 37’s 15.
Jovic also won 35 receiving points to Eala’s 26.
Still, the FIlipina will be bringing home more than P6.2 million, as well as 10 ranking points.
She, thus, wrapped up her singles’ clay season with a number of early exits.
Last year, she also crashed out in the first round against Emiliana Arango.
Eala will still see action in the women’s doubles, as she is paired with Victoria Mboko.
The pair will battle it out with Leylah Fernandez and Diana Shnaider in the first round.
