Galeries Tower lands PVL Draft top pick

MANILA, Philippines — Galeries Tower won the jackpot after drawing the most coveted first overall pick in the PVL Draft Lottery held Monday night at Cignal’s Reliance in Mandaluyong.
And that meant the Highrisers would get to choose the unquestioned top pick in opposite hitter Alyssa Solomon, a former Alas Pilipinas standout who spent the past year playing in Japan.
PLDT star Mika Reyes did the honor of picking the lucky Galeries Tower, which came into the ceremony with only the second highest odds at 30%, next only to Capital1’s 40%.
The Solar Spikers, with Nxled’s MJ Phillips as picker, eventually ended up with the second pick, which should go to anyone not named Solomon.
Solomon, of course, is a generational talent that the Highrisers have prayed long and hard for after lucking out in the past draft following a third pick that they exercised on Julia Coronel two years ago and the No. 2 pick that it used on Jean Asis last year.
The former National University star should come out of the gates as Galeries Tower’s franchise player in search of improving the club’s best finish at eighth place, which it had done twice including in last month’s All-Filipino Conference.
Choco Mucho took the No. 3 pick while ZUS Coffee the No. 4 pick.
