Yulo powers squad to French Men’s Artistic Gymnastics crown

MANILA, Philippines — The Carlos Yulo roadshow is back in France.
This time it visited Amiens, a gothic, literary-rich city 120 kilometers north of Paris where the pocket-sized Filipino dynamo captured a pair of Olympic gold medals two years back.
On this one, the native from Leveriza in Manila delivered another spectacular performance in powering OAJLP Gymnastique to the French Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championship crown in this same place where famous novelist Jules Verne lived.
In doing so, Yulo and his squad dethroned former champion ASVG Vallarius.
And Yulo needed to summon the same magnificence he showed in the French capital two years ago by coming through with a bedazzling performance in floor exercise where he drew a near flawless 15.050 score.
Yulo also unboxed a more difficult routine and a new dismount in parallel bars where he scored 14.250 that helped his club team reign supreme in the Top 12 finals.
“So proud of what we all did last night! Everyone gave their all and it really showed on the competition floor,” said Yulo on his Instagram account where he also showed in a photo his glass trophy and medal alongside girlfriend Chloe San Jose.
While the performance looked effortless, Yulo said it wasn’t.
“A lot of stressful moments and pressure behind this win, which makes it even more special,” he said. “Really grateful for his team and everything we experienced together.”
From here, the Yulo caravan travels to Zunyi, China for the Asian Championships next month; Nagoya, Japan for the Asian Games in September; and Rotterdam, Netherlands for the World Championships in December all this year.
