Aurora Gaming clinches MPL Philippines playoff spot
MANILA, Philippines — Reigning M7 world champion Aurora Gaming Philippines defied the championship curse and secured the final spot in the playoffs of the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 17.
Surviving Smart Omega, 2-1, Aurora Gaming finally snapped its five-game losing streak to secure their playoff ticket, preventing a do-or-die match for the final spot against AP. Bren, which it eventually defeated, 2-1, in the final series of the regular season.
With the Northern Lights qualifying for playoffs, the league says goodbye to AP.Bren and TNC Pro Team, which end the season at seventh and eighth place, respectively.
In the upper half of the standings, Team Liquid Philippines swept ONIC Philippines to secure the top spot, while Team Falcons Philippines edged out the Super Fam for the other upper bracket slot with its double wins over the weekend.
Despite losing both their matches over the weekend, Smart Omega remained the fourth seed, while Twisted Minds strengthened its hold on the fifth seed with a win over TNC Pro Team.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the league will take a one-week hiatus as it shifts to the San Juan Arena for the playoffs. The postseason action officially kicks off on March 27, with ONIC Philippines facing off against Aurora Gaming Philippines at 3 p.m., followed by Smart Omega colliding with Twisted Minds at 7 p.m.
