Smart Omega ends MPL Philippines playoff drought
MANILA, Philippines — Smart Omega snapped its two-season playoff drought after securing a spot in the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 17 Knockout Stage.
Having missed out on the playoffs for the past two season, the Barangay sealed its return to the playoffs by halting Team Falcons Philippines’ eight-match winning streak.
ONIC Philippines also booked a playoff berth following a sweep of AP.Bren, while its victory over Aurora Gaming Philippines further shook up the standings, allowing Twisted Minds to edge out the reigning world champion for another spot in the playoffs.
With five teams now through, the race for the sixth and final playoff slot remains tight among Aurora Gaming Philippines, AP.Bren and TNC Pro Team heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
At the top of the table, Team Liquid Philippines has already secured at least a top-two finish in the regular season, copping an upper bracket advantage with 12 points.
The regular season enters its final weekend on Friday, May 15, featuring Team Falcons Philippines against TNC Pro Team at 5 p.m., followed by ONIC Philippines versus Smart Omega at 7:30 p.m.
