MANILA, Philippines — Chanelle Avaricio mounted a stunning charge from the brink of elimination, firing an eagle-spiked bogey-free 67 to storm into joint 13th after the second round of the China Golf Women’s Legacy at the Poly Chengdu Golf Club in Sichuan on Friday.

From a shaky opening-round 74 that left her languishing in a tie for 59th, Avaricio flipped the script with a blazing backside run, highlighted by a pitch-in eagle on the par-4 No. 10. She complemented it with three birdies for a 35-32 card, climbing to a 36-hole total of 141.

The late surge pushed the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour standout within striking distance of the Top 10 — just one stroke off a six-way tie for seventh at 140 and two behind solo sixth placer Ching Huang at 139.

While Avaricio soared, fellow Filipina Yvon Bisera dramatically tumbled down the leaderboard.

After an impressive opening 68 that put her in solo third and raised hopes for a Filipina breakthrough on the China LPGA, Bisera struggled mightily with a second-round 77, tumbling to a share of 49th at 145 — now 15 shots behind solo leader Yijia Ren.

Bisera never found her rhythm, limping to a frontside 39 marred by a double bogey and two bogeys against a lone birdie. Her round unraveled further with three consecutive bogeys from No. 11, and though she birdied the final hole, the damage had been done.

In contrast, Avaricio seized momentum after a quiet front nine, igniting her charge with the eagle on No. 10 followed by a birdie on the next hole. After steadying with four straight pars, she struck again with a precise tee shot on the par-3 No. 16 that set up another birdie, capping one of the day’s most impressive turnarounds.

Ren, meanwhile, continued her dominant form, torching the course with a flawless 64 built on eight birdies for a commanding 14-under 130 total.

Amateur Yujie Liu also made a strong push with a brilliant 63, highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 No. 17, to move to 132 — just two shots off the lead. Runzhi Pang, who shared the first-round lead with Ren, slipped slightly with a 70 for a 136 aggregate.

With one round left, Avaricio’s resurgence has put her firmly back in the hunt — while Bisera will need a final-round rebound to salvage her campaign.
