Adamson coach sees even more potential in star Nitura

MANILA, Philippines — Growth and maturity.
While Shai Nitura had a Most Valuable Player season in UAAP Season 88, she still has a lot to work on, Adamson Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude said.
The Lady Falcons saw their season end in the stepladder Final Four on Wednesday at the hands of the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.
Adamson, which finished the season as the third seed, swept UST both times in the regular season. But the team was not able to replicate it in the semifinals.
In the match, Nitura led the team with 13 points on 12 attacks and a block, while having 11 receptions and seven digs.
After the match, Yude said the second-year player has to work on a lot more things moving forward.
“Kailangan maging mature enough pa sa paglalaro. So, kailangan pa namin marami pa talaga trabahuin, like yung aspects, skills, attitude, character during the tough times especially kasi dun talaga masusubok talaga e,” the coach told reporters.
“So, how she leads the team, her teammates. So, hindi naman namin binibigay lahat ng pasanin pa sa kaniya pero syempre doon namin siya inaasahan eh sa ganung bagay. So, yun lang, I want her to grow more,” he added.
Nitura led Adamson in the match, while Ferances Mordi was the only other Lady Falcon in double figures with 11.
The team connected on just 26-of-116 from their attacks, and had an efficiency of 8%. In comparison, UST had a 43-of-121 clip.
“I know naman na si Shaina hindi titigil hanggang hindi magcha-champion yun siya. So, yun yung attitude niya na she is continuing kahit ma-fall down naman kami but still yung hope niya pa rin sa mga susunod na mga years to come is yung championship talaga,” Yude said.
“Pero it's always by God's will talaga na, pero kailangan namin dito talaga na trabahuin every time.”
Still, Yude stressed that he is very proud of Nitura and her performance this season.
“Syempre, on how she works naman, lumalabas talaga on how she performs. So, may mga araw na may mga bad days yung bata, syempre, tao lang din. So, for me, kailangan na maintindihan niya talaga na on how she becomes… yung pagiging MVP, pagiging top scorer every time,” he said.
“So, for us, sinasabi niya naman lagi yun eh. Side [goal lang yung MVP.], Pero yung main goal niya talaga is mag-champion yung team. So, always yung team pa rin yung tinitignan niya.”
The Tigresses will face the National University Lady Bulldogs in the second level of the stepladder on Saturday. The winner will take on the La Salle Lady Spikers in the finals.
