Team Liquid punches playoff ticket in MPL PH Season 17
MANILA, Philippines — Team Liquid Philippines is going all out in its bid to defend its Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines crown, extending its win streak to nine matches and becoming the first team to secure a playoff spot.
In Week 5 of MPL Philippines regular season, the Cavalry dominated reigning champion Aurora Gaming Philippines, 2-0, while quickly disposing of Twisted Minds in similar fashion.
Also on a win streak is second seed Team Falcons Philippines, which managed to outlast third seed ONIC Philippines in the final matchup of the weekend.
But while there is clear point gap among leaders in the standings, the remaining teams are neck-and-neck.
Reigning world champion Aurora Gaming Philippines saw a two-game losing streak over the weekend, falling to Team Liquid and suffering an upset sweep against TNC Pro Team. Suffering a similar losing streak is Twisted Minds, which saw a disappointing performance against both Team Liquid and ONIC Philippines.
Smart Omega was able to capitalize on its winning momentum from the previous week, taking down AP Bren, 2-1. But The Hive was able to bounce back with a 2-1 victory over TNC Pro Team.
This sees a five-way tie at three points, with Aurora Gaming just edging out the pack due to game differential to remain in fourth place. Meanwhile, Smart Omega's two-game win streak saw the team climb to fifth place as AP Bren held on to the sixth place.
In the elimination zone, however, sharing the same three points is Twisted Minds, which dropped two places, while TNC Pro Team still sits at last place despite earning a victory over the weekend.
The regular season continues Friday, May 1, with Twisted Minds against Smart Omega, followed by ONIC Philippines versus TNC Pro Team at 7:30 p.m.
