High Speed Hitters best Foxies for PVL bronze
MANILA, Philippines — PLDT showed poise when it mattered as it turned back Farm Fresh, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-5, on Thursday to sweep their series and clinch third place in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Kianna Dy found her groove in the most perfect time and fired a team-best 21 points that included 14 kills and six blocks, another team high, as the High Speed Hitters — who took the opener 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 26-28, 15-11 last Tuesday — claimed their first third-place trophy.
In all, that was the Manny V. Pangilinan franchise’s third podium finish, which came right after its conquests in the PVL on Tour and Invitational last year.
Dy’s reemergence was also what PLDT needed that eased the burden from tired and weary Savi Davison, who had been doing most of the heavy lifting the whole conference.
The Filipino-Canadian wound up with 20 hits she laced with 19 attacks.
PLDT mentor Rald Ricafort said it was all about winning the psychological warfare.
“Coming from Tuesday’s game, I just reminded everyone that it would just be a mental battle in Game Two because we really don’t have time left to prepare,” he said.
“At least, it bore fruit on this game especially in the critical stretch.”
Ricafort also drew a strong effort from second-stringer Kiesha Bedonia, who came off the bench to scatter 15 points, while Mika Reyes and Majoy Baron each contributed 10 hits.
For Farm Fresh, it missed its chance of extending the series for another game and a shot at its breakthrough podium finish.
But the Foxies should hold their heads up high as their semifinal finish was nothing to be ashamed about as it was the club’s best performance in the league.
