Singson, three others seek redemption in Tianjin Open
MANILA, Philippines — Mafy Singson and three fellow standouts from the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour head into the Tianjin Women’s Open with renewed determination, aiming for stronger performances as the China LPGA Tour resumes Thursday at the CD Course of the Songjiang Tuanbo Lake Golf Club in Tianjin.
After putting in a couple of practice rounds on the links-style layout, the Filipina quartet gained valuable insight into the course’s ball placements and tricky contours — boosting their confidence as they look to bounce back from their underwhelming showing at last week’s Chongqing Women’s Open.
Singson led the group in Chongqing but could only manage a tie for 26th, underscoring the need for improvement. Chanelle Avaricio finished tied for 38th, while Daniella Uy and Yvon Bisera failed to make the cut.
Despite the setbacks, all four are optimistic about delivering stronger results in this year’s ¥800,000, 54-hole tournament. A solid start will be crucial in positioning themselves for a serious title run.
Avaricio will tee off at 8:06 a.m. on the back nine alongside China’s Ruiqing Liu and amateur Zuxin Wun. Uy follows at 8:17 a.m., grouped with Thailand’s Panissara Tungprapunvong and Chinese amateur Jingya Xu.
Singson begins her campaign at 12:01 p.m. on No. 1, where she will face Thai veteran Supamas Sangchan and Malaysia’s Aretha Pan. At the same time on No. 10, Bisera looks to rebound from last week’s struggles as she takes on Thailand’s Pavarisa Yoktuan and Tunrada Piddon.
Meanwhile, former LPGA Tour campaigner Natthakritta Vongtaveelap returns to action after a dominant performance in Chongqing, where she fired a blistering final-round 64 to secure a two-shot victory over compatriot Siri Patchana with a 15-under 201 total. She tees off at 12:34 p.m. on No. 1 alongside China’s Xinen Lin and Thailand’s Kan Bunnabodee.
