UE's Reyes to play out final UAAP year

MANILA, Philippines -- Following back-to-back winless seasons in the UAAP, University of the East's Angge Reyes said she will be staying for one more year as she aims to make history with the Lady Warriors. 

UE finished off its season with a 25-23, 25-19, 29-27 defeat at the hands of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. 

The last time the Lady Warriors tallied a win in the UAAP was back in UAAP Season 86, and since then, it has been a drought in consecutive seasons for UE. 

After the match, Reyes said she will be using up her final UAAP playing year next season. 

“What makes me stay here sa UE is gusto ko siyang ipaglaban. Since high school kasi, same result always. So gusto kong umalis sa UE na makagawa kami ng history,” she told reporters. 

“Kami, parang yung last [win] namin is nasa Season 86 pa. So, gusto namin na aalis kami na may mangyayaring history at may magagawa kaming history for UE,” Reyes, who tallied 12 digs and eight receptions against Ateneo, added. 

She added that she wants to win for her coaches, the UE community and her teammates. 

“Gusto namin sila bigyan ng magandang experience.” 

Her teammates Van Bangayan and Khy Cepada, though, are still undecided. 

Cepada and Bangayan, the two top scorers of the Lady Warriors this season, said they are still weighing whether or not they will return to the team as it is a big decision. 

Cepada finished with 18 points, to go with 13 receptions and 11 digs against the Blue Eagles. Bangayan, on the other hand, produced 12 markers and eight digs. 

Dona de Leon powered the also-ran Ateneo with 14 markers. Jihan Chuatico and Ana Hermosura had 12 and 11, respectively, for the 1-12 Blue Eagles.
