Cariaso out as Blackwater head coach

MANILA, Philippines -- Jeffrey Cariaso will be moving on as the head coach of the Blackwater Bossing.
Cariaso on Saturday announced that his time as head coach of the team has ended, “following discussions with management and a mutual decision to move in different directions.”
The coaching change happened in the middle of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, where the Bossing are currently holding a 1-4 win-loss record.
“I have always believed that the more demanding the path, the greater the responsibility to stay the course. I have always approached my work with that conviction, grounded in competitiveness and character,” Cariaso said in an Instagram story.
“This was one of the most challenging assignments of my coaching career, and it was met with full commitment and the clear intention to see it through,” he added.
“I stand by the work we put in, the standards we upheld and the professionalism we maintained throughout.”
Cariaso was named as Blackwater head coach in 2023. He previously called the shots for Barangay Ginebra, Alaska and Converge.
Reports said that former Gilas women head coach Pat Aquino will be replacing Cariaso as interim head tactician.
“My sincere thanks to Boss Dioceldo Sy, Boss Silliman Sy and the rest of the management team for the opportunity and their trust,” Cariaso, a member of the PBA’s 50 Greatest Players, said.
“I leave with respect for the organization and wish the players and the team continued strength and success.”
