Lady Falcons batter winless Lady Warriors

MANILA, Philippines -- For the first time in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament, the Adamson Lady Falcons have strung together consecutive wins.
This, after the Lady Falcons soared past the University of the East Lady Warriors in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 28-26, Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
Frances Mordi powered Adamson with 18 points on 16 attacks, a block and an ace. Shai Nitura chipped in 13 markers on eight attacks, three blocks and two aces.
After getting manhandled in the first two sets, UE was able to find its rhythm in the third set.
They took a 16-8 lead after a block by Eljane Nogueras on Mordi.
However, Adamson slowly climbed out of the hole, tying things up at 23-all after a Khy Cepada attack error.
The Lady Falcons were able to move ahead by one, 24-23, after a Lhouiz Tuddao block on Cepada.
UE, though, got the upper hand anew after back-to-back attack errors by Nitura and Mordi, 25-24.
Back-to-back points by Adamson gave them a 26-25 advantage, but Cepada continued to pour her heart out to tie it up anew, 26-all.
But a quick by Tuddao, followed by a Nitura kill from the backrow, iced the match, 28-26.
Tuddao had nine markers for the winning squad while Abe Segui had seven.
Cepada powered UE with 14 points, all on attacks, while Kesha Famulagan and Bea Zamudio had six each.
Adamson thus rose to solo fourth with a 6-4 win-loss record, while UE remained winless through 10 matches so far this season.
Earlier in the day in the men’s division, the UE Red Warriors defeated Adamson, 25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 25-22, to breathe life into their slim Final Four hopes.
