DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The long wait is over as the BYD IRONMAN 70.3 Davao presented by Aboitiz blasts off today featuring elite international contenders and the country’s finest triathletes.

Amid a demanding backdrop and under Davao’s tropical heat, the race marks its return after a year-long hiatus, raising the stakes for diverse field representing 30 nations for the grueling 1.9-km swim, 90-km bike and 21-km run.

Members of the national team are expected to figure prominently in the battle for top honors in their side of the duel in the Filipino Elite Category, including the likes of Bea Quiambao, Joshua Ramos, Maynard Pecson and Dayshaun Ramos.

Backed by the National Sports Tourism Inter-Agency Council, Philippine Sports Commission, and Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, the race underscores a broader push to position the Philippines as a premier destination for endurance sports.

Athletes will also vie for 50 qualifying slots to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France in September, an incentive that elevates the intensity of the competition.
