Eala outclassed, ends Indian Wells campaign
MANILA, Philippines -- Simply outmatched.
Alex Eala was shown the door in the Indian Wells Open after getting swept by Linda Noskova, 6-2, 6-0, Wednesday afternoon (Manila time) in California.
Noskova, the World No. 14, put on a masterclass against the lackadaisical Eala, dominating every aspect of the match against the frustrated Filipina.
The Czechian 21-year-old had a strong start, going up 2-0.
Eala then held her serve to put herself on the board and was trailing by one game, 2-3.
But Noskova started to pull away.
The Czechian won the next eight games, picking Eala apart with sharp aces and huge winners.
All-in-all, Noskova punched in seven aces and had 25 winners to Eala’s five.
Noskova will now be in the quarterfinal round of the WTA 1000 tournament.
She will be facing Talia Gibson of Australia in the Last Eight. Gibson, the World No. 112, stunned Jasmine Paolini in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, earlier in the day.
Still, Eala had a deep run in her debut in Indian Wells.
She defeated Dayana Yastremska in the Round of 64, before passing through the Round of 16 following a walkover win over Coco Gauff.
