MANILA, Philippines — The PLDT High Speed Hitters are starting to smell the roses.
The Manny V. Pangilinan franchise continued its ascent after it smashed Galeries Tower, 25-18, 25-22, 25-17, on Tuesday at the FilOil Arena in San Juan, which not only gave it the solo lead but also pushed it closer to the PVL All-Filipino Conference qualifying round.
Savi Davison was the heart that kept PLDT’s offense, unloading a match-high 21 points, including 18 off kills, while Kim Fajardo was the soul that sustained the onslaught with 15 excellent sets.
The High Speed Hitters sealed their sixth win in seven outings and planted a foot in the four-squad crossover qualifying round where the two winners would automatically advance to the semis.
But for PLDT coach Rald Ricafort, that’s looking far ahead for his team.
“Actually, that feeling that the semis is nearing, we’re not focusing on that because we still have big games remaining,” said Ricafort, referring to their duels with Choco Mucho Saturday and Nxled on March 19.
“It’s hard to think that way, that's why it is important for us to just take it one game at a time,” he added.
Ricafort also heaped praises on the Highrisers for their significant improvement in this conference.
“I have to give credit to Galeries, they really have a capable lineup for this conference,” he said.
The Highrisers dropped to 2-5.
