Eala, Jovic ousted quickly at Indian Wells doubles

MANILA, Philippines -- The duo of Alex Eala and Iva Jovic had a short run in the Indian Wells Open doubles’ competition after getting swept by Jelena Ostapenko and Hailey Baptiste, 6-2, 6-2, Sunday morning (Manila time) in California.

The pair of Eala and Jovic, who made the semifinals of the ASB Classic earlier in the year, could not replicate their deep run this time around.

Ostapenko and Baptiste had a strong start in the match, going up 4-0 in the first set.

And while the Filipino-American duo halved the deficit, 2-4, with back-to-back games, the Latvian-American pair closed out the set with back-to-back games of their own.

Eala and Jovic then kept in step in the second set, tying things up at 1-all after holding their serve.

But Ostapenko and Baptiste won the next three games to break the set wide open, 4-1.

Eala and Jovic salvaged the set as they held their serve anew, 2-4, but their opponents were just too good to handle.

Ostapenko and Baptiste punched in four aces .They also won 24 receiving points to their opponent’s 17, while also winning 29 service points to 22 of their foes.

Despite this, Eala will still see action in Indian Wells.

She will take on Coco Gauff in the women’s singles’ third round on Monday morning (Manila time).
