Mayweather to figure in another exhibition before Pacquiao rematch
MANILA, Philippines — Floyd Mayweather Jr. will take not just one, but two interim fights before his big-money showdown with Manny Pacquiao this year.
The American boxing superstar is already reportedly about to face heavyweight great Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight.
He will then stay busy with another one, reportedly against Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis.
An ESPN.com report said Mayweather and Zambidis will lock horns in Athens, Greece this June, or three months before his scheduled rematch with Pacquiao.
Mayweather and Pacquiao are penciled to fight on September 19 in Las Vegas, 11 years after their record-breaking first showdown.
As it appears, the undefeated Mayweather (50-0, with 27 knockouts) wants a few more rounds under his belt before staking his perfect record in a pro fight against Pacquiao.
"2026 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for me," Mayweather wrote on Instagram, a caption accompanying a poster for his exhibition fight with Zambidis, which is being promoted as “Battle of the Legends”.
“(((Europe)))… I'm on the way to entertain! Athens, Greece... get ready for an all-out exhibition,” he added.
His opponent, the 45-year-old Zambidis, is a retired kickboxer with a record of 157-24, with 87 KOs. The Greek last fought in 2015.
It’s been reported that Pacquiao himself will also take the exhibition route before facing Mayweather. But that showcase fight — against Pacquiao’s former sparring partner and ex-world champion Ruslan Provodnikov — is reportedly not yet final.
