MANILA, Philippines -- Home court, defended.

University of Santo Tomas hardly broke sweat and drubbed the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, in their UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball action Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The Golden Tigresses needed just an hour and 18 minutes to grab the win and rise to a 2-2 win-loss record with back-to-back wins.

Angge Poyos and Jonna Perdido had 11 and 10 markers, respectively, while Marga Altea, Avril Bron and Reg Jurado had eight for the Espana-based squad.

“Happy and proud kasi slowly, nakaka-adapt kami sa bawat isa kung ano ‘yung gusto naming gawin. We know na ang dami pa naming kailangang i-improve, pero ang good thing, meron kaming magandang result ngayon,” UST head coach Shaq Delos Santos said after the match.

The Tigresses drew strength from the home fans, as they tallied huge leads in each of the set.

UE could not recover as they scrambled to catch up, but to no avail.

Cassie Carballo tossed up 13 excellent sets while also contributing five points for the winning squad.

Khy Cepada finished with nine points for UE. Van Bangayan chipped in three as the team’s second-leading scorer.

All-in-all, the Tigresses scored 36 points off spikes, to UE’s 15. They also tallied nine blocks and eight services.

The Lady Warriors fell to 0-4 this season.

In the men’s division, the UST Golden Spikers also made quick work of the UE Red Warriors, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.

Josh Ybanez powered UST with 13 points, while Trevor Valera had 10.

Raquim Aceron finished with 12 for UE.

The Golden Spikers rose to solo second with a 3-1 win-loss record, while the Red Warriors slipped to 1-3.
