MANILA, Philippines — Everyone deserves a second chance.

Sydney Mae Niegos got one and made the most out of it, delivering a career-best performance in Capital1’s 26-24, 20-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-11 squeaker over Farm Fresh yesterday in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Arena.

The 5-8 middleblocker from Jose Rizal U, back in harness after being let go entering the conference, unleashed 20 points she laced with 17 spikes that helped propel the Solar Spikers to their third win against the same number of losses.

The Foxies dropped to 2-3.

Niegos was crying and profusely thanked Capital1 coach Jorge Souza de Brito moments after her brilliant showing.

“Thank you coach for getting me back,” she told De Brito.

Niegos was truly what the Milka and Mandy Romero-owned franchise needed as Bella Belen, their scoring dynamo who dropped 23 points, couldn’t do it alone in each game.

“We were talking earlier before the start that we haven’t beaten Farm Fresh in our two years in the league,” said Niegos. “So we all shouted that this is the day.” And it was.

In the nightcap, Choco Mucho survived Galeries Tower, 26-24, 20-25, 22-25, 25-13, 15-12, to improve to 2-3, the same record of the latter.
