MANILA, Philippines — Akari continued its dominance over sibling rival Nxled, this time hacking out a 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22 victory Wednesday to pocket its breakthrough win in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Arena in San Juan City.
Ivy Lacsina wreaked havoc with 20 points while Ced Domingo delivered her best game in a long while with 17 hits as the Chargers nailed their first triumph after limping to a 0-3 start.
Akari coach Tina Salak said it was all about preparation.
“We had so many adjustments coming into this game,” said the former national team setter.
For Domingo, she made sure to make her presence felt.
“Going into this match, my personal mindset was to do my job and the rest will follow,” she said.
It was also Akari’s fourth straight win over its sister squad after the former swept the latter in all their three meetings last year.
But it looked like the Chameleons were about to end their losing streak to the Chargers after coming into their showdown locked up and loaded with a better record of 3-1 and a scary roster.
It wasn’t meant to be though as Akari found ways to silence Nxled’s armory of weapons.
Nxled fell to its second straight defeat after roaring to a fantastic 3-0 start.
Brooke Van Sickle struggled in pacing her squad with 16 points while Myla Pablo had 14 and MJ Phillips 12.
