Cantada propels NU to 2-0 start

MANILA, Philippines — Super rookie Sam Cantada scored against her former high school teammates, towing reigning champion National U to a 25-23, 25-19, 28-26 sweep of Adamson for the early solo lead in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The former UAAP juniors MVP sizzled with 16 points on 13 hits, two aces and a block as the Bulldogs jumped to a 2-0 start after a tough four-set debut win against Santo Tomas last weekend, 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24.
It was a solid follow-up performance for Cantada from a 21-point outing – a hint of the arrival of the next NU star.
But for Cantada, it’s just another game. “Actually, wala naman emotions. Okay na rin talaga kami, okay na. Hindi na para isali pa, game is a game lang,” said Cantada, who committed to NU for collegiate play after keeping the juniors MVP crown in San Marcelino in Season 87.
Later, Far Eastern U (1-1), from a loss to La Salle, vented its ire on University of the East (0-2), 25-20, 25-14, 25-14.
