MANILA, Philippines — Bella Belen isn’t the country’s Ms. Volleyball for nothing.
The 2025 top rookie draft pick bucked cramps and returned in time to help save the day in Capital1’s 25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-10 over an Eya Laure-less Choco Mucho Tuesday in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil Arena in San Juan.
Belen shrugged off cramps and battled in the fifth and final set to help propel the Mandy and Milka Romero-owned Solar Spikers to their second victory against the same number of defeats.
“Thank you for this award,” said Belen, who received the “Ms. Volleyball” trophy bestowed on her by the Philippine Sportswriters Association during the post-game interview.
Belen dropped 29 points, her league high, including some crucial hits in the deciding set that fended off a rallying Rebisco franchise, which opted to rest Laure, who suffered a groin injury during its four-set defeat to sibling rival Creamline at the Mall of Asia Arena a week ago.
But unlike in their last two outings that ended in back-to-back defeats, the Solar Spikers found someone who stepped up in the clutch to help Belen up — France Ronquillo.
Ronquillo came out of nowhere and chipped in five hits, three of which came in the last set.
“We can’t do this if we don't help each other and I saw how the team pushed themselves to get this win,” said Belen.
The Flying Titans descended to 1-3.
