Pascual passes test of character in first MPBL preseason game
MANILA, Philippines — Migs Pascual and the Sarangani 10 Act squad got an early test of character, and there’s no better way to do it than facing no less than reigning MPBL champions Abra Weavers.
In his first offseason game since joining Sarangani midway of last season, Pascual showed more maturity in his game and this time, he concentrated on being more of a facilitator for his squad.
He dished out seven assists on top of hitting two triples but Sarangani, a team considered a work in progress, was outplayed by the powerhouse Weavers, 102-88, at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Despite the loss, Sarangani saw a lot of positives in the game, particularly with the brand of play displayed by Pascual.
A former co-captain of the Philippine national youth squad, Pascual’s ability to keep ahold of the team was very much evident, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from him last season.
In his rookie season last year, Pascual was able to showcase his shooting prowess and in one game, he was able to tally seven 3-point shots made.
This time, it’s his ability to make his teammates better than was given more emphasis in their game against the Weavers.
Sportscasters who covered the game took note of Pascual’s shooting prowess, his capability of shooting the lights out on any given night, but against the only three-time league champion Enzo Serrano and the Weavers, his game was put to a test.
Pascual was able to pass that test impressively enough.
“His game is pretty much predicated on his outside shooting and he’s not going to shy away from that if you’re going to give him much space,” said game analyst Mike Perez. “But he’s not on a rush, maybe trying to get his new teammates in the flow of things and get them more involved.”
“But he’s one big player you can hold onto, when you need someone who could take the shots.”
In his first season game, Pascual did a little bit of everything — from showing his potential to take big shots to making everybody on the team look good. (Contributed story)
