Aurora Gaming PH, Team Liquid keep M7 dream alive

MANILA, Philippines — The Filipino representatives in the M7 World Championship are still gunning for the trophy as Aurora Gaming PH and Team Liquid secured crucial wins against tough opponents, Selangor Red Giants (SRG) and ONIC Esports, on the third day of the tournament's Knockout rounds in Jakarta, Indonesia.
With a slot in the grand finals on the line, the Northern Lights survived crucial team fights to get enough of a gold lead, even as SRG tried to push in the late game.
But SRG reminded the Filipino runners-up why they are the giants of M7 as they were quick to turn the tide and set themselves up at match point after MVP plays from Filipino EXP laner Mark "Kramm" Rusiana and midlaner Hazziq "Stormie" Rizwan in Games 2 and 3 to take a 1-2 lead
In a closely contested Game 4, a crucial fight by the lord granted Aurora Gaming PH new life as they were able to force a decider after taking down four players on the side of the Malaysian squad.
Game 5 saw map control and discipline play a factor for both teams as Aurora Gaming PH was able to control the map. But SRG answered with discipline plays to successfully defend. The team fight by the fifth lord saw SRG try to shift the tides from defense to offense, only for it to backfire as SRG was wiped out, and Aurora Gaming PH marched to the base to book their place in the M7 grand finals.
In the lower brackets, Team Liquid stayed on track in its Golden Road run as it took down Indonesian champion ONIC Esports.
The Cavalry was quick to take a 2-0 lead but the Sonics, fueled by their home crowd, managed to keep their hopes alive after taking Game 3. Game 4 saw a calculated Team Liquid take over the map and control the initiations, eventually eliminating the home bets to continue its lower bracket run.
Aurora Gaming PH awaits the final winner of the lower bracket in the grand finals on Sunday, January 25, while Team Liquid hopes to stay alive in the tournament with their lower bracket clash against Turkiye’s Aurora Gaming at 4 p.m. Friday (Manila time).
