MANILA, Philippines — The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) has formally introduced the national team representation framework for the inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC), marking the first major step toward building a long-term, nation?based esports ecosystem.

The announcement also opens applications for official National Team Partners that will be responsible for organizing and representing their countries’ esports squads.

Set to debut in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in November this year, the ENC will serve as the global stage for players competing under their national flag. The event will run on a biennial format, complementing the club?based Esports World Cup by giving fans a new avenue to support athletes through national identity.

“The purpose of the Esports World Cup Foundation is to elevate esports and make it sustainable. The Esports Nations Cup is a natural next step in that journey. By opening this application process, we are inviting trusted National Team Partners to help define the framework for how countries and territories are represented in esports with clear roles, aligned governance, and a system that works for players, game partners, and fans alike,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the EWCF.

Under the newly released framework, National Team Partners will act as each country’s official counterpart within the ENC structure. Their responsibilities go beyond forming national rosters as they will also coordinate with game publishers, clubs, and coaches; oversee national team operations per game title; and align with EWCF in upholding competition rules and eligibility requirements.

The partners will also be tasked with shaping national team identity through marketing, communications, and community engagement campaigns. This includes working with creators and media, mobilizing local fanbases, and ensuring national representation resonates across gaming communities.

Each organization must also appoint a National Team Manager, who will serve as the team’s public lead and the primary liaison with EWCF.

Eligible applicants range from esports organizations and clubs to NGOs, national federations, government?mandated entities, agencies, creators, and professionals with deep esports ecosystem ties.

To bolster long-term investment in nation-based esports programs, EWCF will also launch the ENC Development Fund, committing at least $20 million annually beginning with ENC 2026. The fund will cover team logistics and travel for the competition while supporting year-round activities that strengthen national fandom.

Among these initiatives are training camps and bootcamps with fan access, national team tours, showcase matches, watch parties and appearances at major gaming and sports events. The program aims to ensure that the ENC ecosystem thrives not only during competition but throughout the year.

The ENC’s debut in Riyadh is part of a long-term vision of EWCF to provide a dependable structure for national esports, similar to international sporting events. After its initial run in 2026, the tournament will move to a rotating host city model.
