Bundit eyed to replace De Brito as Alas women's coach

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Volleyball Federation is setting its sights at extending the contract of Alas Pilipinas men’s coach Angiolino Frigoni and hoping to tap Tai Bundit as its women’s mentor as successor to Jorge de Brito.
“His contract will expire in July, 2026 but we will renew his contract,” PNVF chief Tonyboy Liao on Wednesday told The STAR, referring to the veteran Italian strategist in Frigoni.
Since Frigoni took over, the Filipinos have improved by leaps and bounds as evidenced by their historic 19th place finish in the FIVB World Championship the country hosted last August.
Under Frigoni, Alas has also made the semis in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games and will battle Thailand Thursday for a win that would propel it straight to the finals where it will have a shot at a breakthrough gold.
Regardless of what happens, Liao had seen enough and is bent on keeping Frigoni.
Meanwhile, Liao said Bundit leads the shortlist of the coaches they’re looking into to replace DeBrito.
“He’s only in the wish list,” said Liao of Bundit.
