MANILA, Philippines — Woman FIDE Master Ruelle Canino fanned her title hopes after drawing with Russian International Master Evgenija Ovod in 33 moves of a Sicilian in the eighth and penultimate round of the 6th ASEAN Individual Chess Championships-Gov. Henry Oaminal Cup at the Asenso Misamis Occidental Resort and Aquamarine Park in Ozamiz.

The win kept Canino, 17, at second with top seed WFM Anna Zhurova of Russia, who waylaid compatriot WIM Ekaterina Smirnova in 45 moves of a Ruy Lopez, with six points apiece in this meet backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and offers a Grandmaster title to the champion.
