Arca on track for GM norm

MANILA, Philippines —   Christian Gian Karlo Arca zoomed to the top of the 6th ASEAN Individual Chess Championships-Gov. Henry Oaminal Cup yesterday after hurdling Filipino Tyrhone James Tabernilla in the third round at the Misamis Occidental Resort and Aquamarine Park in Ozamiz.

Arca, who jumped from being a FIDE Master to International Master last August, pulled it off after 57 moves of a Catalan and has his hands full against third seed IM V S Raahul of India as of press time.

If Arca pulls it off he would be in prime position to rule this event and earn the coveted GM title.
