Remember Leila Barros?

MANILA, Philippines — Former Brazilian volleyball star Leila Barros will return to the Philippines – almost 25 years after sweeping the hearts and minds of local sports fans.
The 5-10 icon bedazzled Filipinos with her play, beauty and magnetic personality during the 2000 FIVB World Grand Prix at the PhilSports Arena.
She was an instant hit especially among male fans, a sensation, that she was offered indirect marriage proposals.
And now, the volleyball star who turned to politics and became a senator in her country in 2018, is staging a comeback.
“What a joy it will be to reconnect with these passionate volleyball fans,” Barros said. “See you soon!”
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I receive this very special invitation. Returning to the Philippines, where I have always been welcomed with such warmth, is incredibly exciting,” said Barros.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation announced this piece of good news Friday night, saying Barros will fly in as a special guest during the finals of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship set Sept. 12 to 28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and MOA Arena.
“Leila Barros, finals guest of honor,” it said.
During the 2000 event in Manila, Barros went on to win a bronze medal for Brazil, and the hearts of the hosts.
