Fiberxers back on track

Converge import Scotty Hopson is fouled by NorthPort guard Jio Jalalon in this bit of action last night.

MANILA, Philippines —  Converge survived a roller-coaster entanglement with NorthPort and secured a 107-99 payback win last night in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The FiberXers blew a 16-point lead and found themselves trailing by eight halfway through the fourth but recovered towards the final push to get it done.

The league’s youngest franchise avenged their 109-135 blowout loss to the Batang Pier in the first round of the Group A elims and caught up with the latter at 3-4 overall.

“It may be an ugly win but we’ll take it, especially right now at this stage of the eliminations more than halfway already. We know we need this, it’s a virtual playoff for us,” said Converge coach Franco Atienza, whose charges forced a tie with NorthPort at fourth and fifth.

Later, San Miguel Beer got back at NLEX (3-4), 119-114, for a share of Group B No. 2 with Barangay Ginebra at 4-2.

Marcio Lassiter fired four treys to surge past Allan Caidic (1,242) at second overall in most three-pointers made at 1,243 behind Jimmy Alapag’s 1,250.
