Malixi gains match play semis

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ Rianne Malixi stayed on course for back-to-back USGA crowns as she marched into the semifinals of the US Women’s Amateur Championship Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The sixth-ranked Malixi, who reigned supreme in the US Girls’ Juniors Championship last month, eked out a tense 2 and 1 quarterfinal victory over No. 51 American Catherine Rao to move two wins away from the US Women’s Amateur tiara.
