Yulo enters vault, parallel bars finals at FIG artistic gymnastics worlds

MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo is advancing to the finals of vault and parallel bars of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha.

Yulo, who already punched a ticket to the Paris Olympics, finished second in both apparatuses.

He recorded 14.966 in the vault and 14.633 in the parallel bars.

In his first vault, the Filipino gymnast recorded a score of 15.300 in his first vault, topping the field. He then scored 14.633 in his second vault, which launched him to second place.

He finished behind Armania’s Artur Davtyan, who had an average score of 15.116.

Also qualifying in the final are Dominican Republic’s Audrys Nin Reyes, Australia’s James Bacueti, Italy’s Niccolo Vannucchi, Malaysia’s Chun Chen Ng, Croatia’s Aurel Benovic and Belarus’ Yahor Sharamkou.

In parallel bars, the 24-year-old Yulo finished behind Uzbekistan’s Rasuljon Abdurakhimov with a score of 14.900.

Taipei’s Yuan-Hsi Hung, Brazil’s Diogo Soares, Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi, Brazil’s Caio Souza and Italy’s Lay Giannini and Nicolo Mozzato likewise qualified in the final of parallel bars.

Meanwhile, Filipino bet Levi Ruivivar qualified to the finals of uneven bars to keep her Olympic dream alive.

She finished with a score of 13.200, good for eighth place.

Also in the finals of the uneven bars are Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour, Belarus’ Alena Tsitavets, New Zealand’s Georgia-Rose Brown, Sweden’s Nathalie Westlund, Portugal’s Filipina Martins, Belgium’s Maellyse Brassart and Ukraine’s Anna Lashchevska.
