Youth sports clinic opens in Lucena

MANILA, Philippines – A provincial sports clinic in Lucena City, Quezon was opened Tuesday, in a “significant boost” to youth sports development.

The sports clinic at the Alcala Sports Complex would offer trainings and education in various sports. 

It was organized by the provincial government, led by Quezon governor Helen Tan, with the support of the Philippine Sports Committee. 

Sen. Bong Go attended the opening of the sports clinic, which, he said would “play an important role in fostering athletic skills, promoting physical fitness, and nurturing sportsmanship among participants, who are student-athletes from Quezon National High School.”

Among those who attended in the opening were Mayor Mark Alcala and Vice Gov. Third Alcala. 

During his visit, Go underscored the government’s commitment to nurturing young athletes and promoting a healthier lifestyle among the Filipino youth.

“As the chairman of the Senate committee on sports and vice chairman of the Senate committee on finance, it is a big honor to see that these kinds of projects are bearing fruit,” he said. 

“Sports is not just for entertainment or hobbies. It is an important aspect of life that builds discipline, camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle. That is my advocacy — get into sports and stay away from drugs. That is a way to fight off illegal drugs,” he added. 

During the opening, Go’s team also provided assistance to aspiring athletes and participants. 

The legislator also expressed confidence that the sports clinic will “serve as a vital platform for discovering and honing the talents of young sports enthusiasts in the community.”
