Groseclose falls short in Winter Olympics speed skating
MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino speed skater Peter Groseclose failed to make the cut to the next round men's 1500m short track speed skating semifinals in the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics.
Groseclose finished with a time of 2:20.575 in the quarterfinal 6 of the tournament.
He ranked fifth in the tourney, where the top four were qualified to the next round.
South Korea's Joo Jaehee, Japan's Fuchigami Yuta, Great Britain's Willem Murray and Belgium's Lowie Dekens made the cut in the quarterfinal 6.
Groseclose will still compete in the 1000m and the 500m events at the Winter Youth Olympics.
In a statement, the Philippine Olympic Committee called on Filipinos to "rally behind him and continue cheering, praying and showing unwavering support."
In the event, Joo took home the gold medal with a time of 2:21.906.
China's Xinzhe Zhang (2:22.095) brought home the silver medal, while Korea's Yousung Kim (2:22.148) grabbed the bronze medal.
