MANILA, Philippines — In a much-awaited announcement, MVP Kevin Quiambao committed to return to La Salle next season as the Green Archers look to defend their crown.

“Playing for DLSU has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. After constantly consulting my family and friends, we’re excited to run it back and try to make it back-to-back,” said the incoming third-year ace in Season 87.

Quiambao previously said that he would take his sweet time before deciding on his next step after a remarkable run highlighted by a dual feat of winning the Season MVP and Finals MVP as La Salle ended its seven-year UAAP title drought.

A vacation first with his family in Japan after playing non-stop action throughout the year was already scheduled this week before his decision.

But the triple-threat forward could not wait to share the good news even before he took his much-needed break with an expected flurry of international interests in his way.

Quiambao, also a former Gilas Pilipinas cager, registered 16.7 points, 10.86 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.93 steals in the elimination phase to harvest 97.0 statistical points in his runaway win in the MVP race.

His amazing campaign included two triple-doubles in a season – the first player to do the feat in the Final Four era.

In the process, Quiambao became the first MVP from La Salle since Ben Mbala in 2016 and 2017.

And he saved his best for last. With the Archers’ backs against the wall in the winner-take-all Game 3 against University of the Philippines, Quiambao fired 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks, including La Salle’s last seven points to author a 73-69 comeback win.
