MANILA, Philippines -- Jade Talampas waxed hot in the fourth quarter and helped the Arellano Chiefs stun the San Beda Red Lions, 74-72, in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament Friday afternoon at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Talampas, who was scoreless in the first half, heated up for 14 points in the final quarter as the Chiefs erased an 11-point deficit in the third quarter.

With Arellano down four, 68-72, with less than a minute remaining following a split from the line by James Payosing, Talampas hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one, 72-71, with 37.2 seconds remaining.

After a turnover by Jacob Cortez on the other end, the ball found Talampas once again, and the latter hit the game-winning three pointer with 5.9 seconds remaining to take the lead, 74-72.

Jomel Puno then missed in point-blank range as time expired.

The win snapped the four-game losing streak by Arellano. It also cut the four-game winning streak by San Beda.

Talampas finished with 18 points in the game. He was followed by Ralph Yanes with 11 markers.

Payosing led San Beda with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Puno had 14 points and 11 boards.

Cortez, who is one of the key cogs of San Beda, struggled in the game, finishing with just two points on 0-of-11 field goal shooting.

The Chiefs notched their second win of the season for a 2-8 win-loss card.

San Beda, meanwhile, dropped to a 7-3 slate.
