MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ Dottie Ardina takes a break from her LPGA grind to compete in next week’s Malayan Open (also known as Maybank Championship ) in Malaysia as one of three sponsors’ invitees.

The 29-year-old Ardina will see action in an elite cast of 78 top pros in a four-day no-cut event that offers a money purse of $3 million at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Ardina is one of three LPGA mainstays invited by the sponsoring Maybank. The others are Lydia Ko and Nelly Tan. The Canlubang ace is coming off not on a sensational season. But she has earned more points in the current ranking than last year. She is currently at 121st in the overall standings while finishing 136th in last year’s series. She would need a top 10 in her last tournament to secure her full LPGA card.

“It’s as hard as it looks but we have to do it,” said Ardina.
