The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines (WGAP) is set to host the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship on Feb. 20-24 at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.

Fourteen countries namely Thailand, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines vie in the 43rd edition of the meet also known as the Queen Sirikit Cup.

“This is a milestone event for us because this year is our 50th anniversary. We will make sure that all the participants, including coaches and parents, will have a great time,” said WGAP president Cielo Regino-Fregil.

WGAP plus 14 Ladies Chapters across the country are keen and eager to showcase the best of the Filipino hospitality during the four-day tournament that is recognized as the official ladies’ golf tournament in the Asia Pacific Region.

This is the fourth time the Philippines is hosting (1987, 1997 and 2007) since we joined in 1980. So far, we have Dottie Ardina taking the coveted plum in 2011; Princess Superal and Filipina Japanese Yuka Saso each registered a second runner up in 2015 and 2018, respectively.
