POC amendments come into play

MANILA, Philippines —  Starting this year, all national sports association heads can lead their respective NSAs a maximum of three terms.

“Max term, three terms,” said Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Toletino.

The three-term limit was one of the ammendments approved by the executive board for a long time now but will only get the final nod from the general assembly during its meeting on Wednesday.

Also expected to get the green light for implementation is the removal of position of immediate past president from the POC board by next year as well as the position of chairman.

Currently occupying those posts are Tolentino’s predecessor Ricky Vargas and handball’s Steve Hontiveros as chairman.

Also, an age limit of 75 years old will be applied for NSA presidents.

It was extended from an original 70-year-old limit proposed a few years ago.

The POC is abiding by the International Olympic Committee practice of implementing age limit to its leadership.

“Approved na EB ammendments na napakatagal na,” said the mayor from Tagaytay and PhilCycling chief.

The POC will also allow an official to be part of two NSAs but not as president of both.

“Maximum of two NSAs basta hindi parehas president,” he said.
