MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Judo Federation secretary-general David Carter has been appointed as commissioner of the UAAP Season 85 judo tournament, which is making its comeback on Saturday and Sunday at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.
The UAAP varsity judokas will return to actual action for the first in two years due to COVID-19. The judo competition was last held in the first quarter of 2020 when UST romped off with the men’s senior and boys division crowns and UE took the women’s and girls division plums.
“We are honored and privileged to be appointed by the UAAP Board and UAAP executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag to be the judo tournament commissioner. We will make certain that the event comes up to the highest standards of play,” said Carter, also the Judo Union of Asia sports director.
He added that his appointment was timely considering that Ateneo is host of the competition and whose coach is no less than PJF president Alexander “Ali” Sulit.
“Given Carter’s sterling record as a top technical official in the international level, we can expect objective, fair, honest and clean officiating during the two-day UAAP judo tournament,” Sulit pointed out.
