MANILA, Philippines — The tandems of Mike Javier-Bryan Patrick Tan and Jaye Escuadro-Eric Gozo shared overall honors in a highly-successful revival of the Orchard Founders Cup Invitational that featured 400 member-guest teams recently at the two championship courses of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Javier and Tan combined for 87 points at the Palmer course and a best-ball 47 at the Player course for a two-day total of 134 points, edging the tandem of Masaru Matsuo and Yoshihisa Tsujimoto by a mere point for the overall net title. The Japanese expats made 84 in aggregate and 49 in best-ball.
Escuadro and Gozo combined for 65 at the Palmer and 34 at the Player for 99, winning by two over Jon Baron and Juan Karloz Alba (61-36-97).
Winning division honors were George Ramos-Abelardo Ulgaldo in Class A, Blair Hann Lim-Augustine Rojas in Class B, Clemente Chan-Eugenio Cheung in Class C, Matsuo and Tsujimoto in Class D and Grace Woo-Marienelle Sales in the sponsors division.
Ramos-Ulgado (71-42-113) beat Orchard president TJ Benitez and his partner Gimo Asuncion (66-46-112) by one, Lim-Rojas (82-43-125) finished far ahead of Alvin Zamora-John Paul Gutierrez (78-41-119), Chan-Cheung (79-48-127) won by a mere point over Danilo Noveno-Christian Villegas (80-46-126) while it was a runaway win for Matsuo and Tsujimoto, up by 11 points on the tandem of Junghan Junghan and Leonardo Singson. Woo and Sales (72-44-116) beat brothers Michael and Marvin Pizarro (70-45-115) by one.
Of the four cars, two motorcycles and a golf cart put up for grabs as hole-in-one prizes by the sponsors, only one was won. It was the GAC Motor GS3 which was the prize received by Louie Sajorda who aced the 11th hole of the Player course on the third day of the member-guest tournament.
Over P6 million worth of prizes were given away in the Grand Raffle night including a Mercedes Benz GLA 200 AMG and a Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 G CVT.
